When choosing what to audition for, make sure you either go through an agent or a theater house that you trust. Other auditions that may be good are those that you get by word of mouth from other actors that you personally know. Just like models who get caught up with "photographers" who have ulterior motives, it's the same in theater and film. Never feel pressured to perform "love scenes", "kissings scenes", scenes that may have suggestive language. You're being tested, not auditioning.
Parents in the event that you have to exit the room, please have a talk with your children beforehand.
"Auditions shouldn't make a child feel uncomfortable or violated."
Personal space is very important. Ask to read the "sides" before your child auditions.
20 years ago I went to an audition for a "movie". when I got there it looked like I had walked into a terrorist hub. There were maps on the walls with red markers circling certain areas. There was one of those dolls used to train fighters laying in the corner with stab wounds in it. It felt like I had walked into danger. Never mind the audition was held in an apartment on the far north side of Chicago. Thank God I got outta there. lol. I could have been kidnapped or something. Yes, there was a short script and a table read and it seemed legit, but something didn't feel right and the guy who held the auditions kept acting nervous and looking around the room. None of us young women got a call from that "audition" and the guy who held the audition just disappeared. His number was disconnected and we were left perplexed. I think of that "audition" from time to time. Looking back, I now know that it was something else. So actors, be careful out there.
