Make-Up!!!

Remember, wearing make-up has nothing to do with you personally as an actor, but everything to do with your character. So wear your make-up.

"The people in the first few rows will get every facial expression, while you may be acting, teaching, performing or ministering, but the rest of the audience is left out of that experience." -L.A. Holts

Let's talk about make up. It is so important that actors, entertainers and those who are speaking in front of a crowd to wear make-up. Especially for women. No, it's not about being vain, but know that your face becomes flat when you are under the lights. Even if you don't like to wear make up personally, if you are in this area of work, or ministry, make up enhances your face and allows those people in the audience to see you from far away. Just think about a theater or auditorium that seats hundreds of people. The people in the first few rows will get every facial expression, while you may be acting, teaching, performing or ministering, but the rest of the audience is left out of that experience. When performing a dramatic scene for instance, or a comedy, your facial expressions are a huge part.

Make up shows the highlights and shadows under the stage lights that keep your facial features popped out and defined. Make-up is great for creating characters and allows an actor to have greater depth within their characters. What if you want your character to have a birth mark?  There can be a great back story and awesome monologues tied into that birthmark. The script can make many twists and turns just by having that one extra make up design applied. Let's not forget about pictures.  The great thing about technology is that make up can be added digitally to photos now. So, if this is available, even if it cost a bit more, go for it. Digital make up can be less expensive and can save a lot of time when you have time constrains. No matter if you need special effects make up for stage or film, or corrective make up for teaching or ministry, it’s part of the process ladies. So please next time you are presenting in front of a crowd, wear your make up!
