Over a million views of this clip! You can find me at 5:23, 1:20, 1:13 and .15 secs. So I think I'll take the time to give my testimony about this particular casting. This was over 20 years ago. So I can say that I have been blessed to be working professional in the industry for over 20 years. But what you may not know is the price...
I had been in the hospital from a major asthma attack for about 3 or 4 days. I knew that audition was coming up but I had IV's and breathing tubes in. But the entire time I was in the hospital, I kept speaking, "I'm getting out of here so I can go audition". Everyone was like, "no just rest", etc. I was determined to get well enough to be discharged to make the audition. So I was still in the hospital the day of the audition and then, my doctor came in and discharged me. My aunt picked me up. I begged her to take me straight to the audition from the hospital. She did. The line was around the corner. I just felt like I should have been there. So finally I was inside and auditioned. As I left, Holy Spirit told me I got the part. As clear as day. The producers said they would give callbacks in about a week. So a week passed and I was a calm as a cucumber, because I knew what I heard. Even my family and friends were like, "next time." I simply said, "Sorry, God said I got the part." Then the producers called with their "bad news" saying that I wasn't chosen and the movie had been cast. After a relative hung up the phone, I politely told her, "God said I got the part. I don't care what they said."
"I didn't know then but my faith was fully activated and in operation."
I didn't even consider what was going on. I stood on what I was told. So, two more weeks passed. My confidence in the word of the Lord did not waiver one bit. Now by this time, everyone thought that I was being crazy or arrogant. I was neither. I had decided to trust my Father above circumstances and how it looked and evil reports. So, around the 3rd week almost, my house phone rang. What do you know, the producers called me in for a callback. But wait, I thought the movie was cast already??? That's what everyone else was saying, I was sitting patiently waiting on the Lord. So when I got there, the producers took a group of us into a meeting room. They were all red faced and embarrassed.
Sidney Poitier walked into his first meeting with the cast and told the producers,
"there aren't enough black kids in the classroom".
The casting director or ex-casting director, had cast mostly Caucasian actors when this movie was about inner city kids. So, they let go about 5 actors and I was 1 of their replacements. And guess what? Yes, I got the part. As we rehearsed in a classroom setting in a movie studio, and in walk Mr. Sidney Poitier. One of the highlights of my career.
In closing, don't look at the circumstances. Stand on the promises of God. Even if you have to be in agreement with yourself and Holy Spirit. Everyone doesn't understand your faith. They don't have to. Even if someone is there in the spot designed for you, don't get mad. Stand on His promises. Often times, Father God test us.
"It's not the trial that makes you more anointed, it's how you handle the trial that brings a greater anointing." (Dr. Kluane Spake.)
Through adversity, everyone around you doubting, even when it seems impossible, stand your ground.
I could say more about this experience, I could talk about wardrobe trailer being broken into and all of our clothes being stolen, or I could talk about it being so cold in the building we were in, in February in Chicago with no heat, but I'll stop here. Just be encouraged, and don't allow other peoples lack of faith to sway you, ever. What God has for you, will manifest in your life. And yes, the Father does move mountains for His children when we use our kingdom key of Faith! It brings Him great pleasure for us to walk in the supernatural knowing that His word will never fall to the ground. Remember, it's for His name sake!
